Insolation
Message from Mike coastal CT
In the past, when very cold temps threaten, I take some pillow quilt batting (it's a lot like insolation) and stuff it around the emerging spear, than place a pig pot over it. So I'll likely do the same with the aloifolia.
However, I have no intention of making covering it a constant thing. My hope is that aloifolia will have no trouble handling normal winter lows here (23/24 F in the coldest month). I'll step in and cover it once or twice a year if lows are to go 15 F below normal, but that's it. However, as mentioned, over the years I kept a good record of my south side lows, and it has never went below 10 F. So I think it might do OK in these sheltered spots.
I'll keep you posted....as I have no intention of babying it! LOL.
