Precautions/trunking Yuccas

Message from Mike coastal CT

I did a good deal of reading/researching on the net...before I picked up my two Aloifolias (including a nice conversation with a woman at Nearly Native in GA).

I think (?) I've take reasonable caution in all the issues, and given them the best start/help that I can. My two are:

*Also planted in a raised bed...

* I amended my already dry soil with an even more sandy/quick draining soil...

* I have nearly total control over how much moisture it gets...

* It is sheltered from any northern exposure....

* I have a temp sensor located right in my bed that gives me constant readings of the temp 2 inches from the plant...

* I have many different types of covers (burlap/frost cloth..etc) if severe winter weather threatens or temps below 10 - 12 F is forecast...

* and it is mulched with a heavy dark stone that will absorb the sun and emit warmth at night.

Will it survive ....who knows....but it will be fun to watch.

As far as other types of Yuccas they also do well here, in the few spots I've seen them. I'm still a bit confused on how to tell them apart (Glorisa, recurvifolia, Rostrata). There are several trunking Yuccas around the coast near here, but I have not had time to really examine them to tell exactly what they are. This is one trunking one close by:
