PNW climate (including Spokane)...

Message from George in Bandon Oregon

Stan, the inland parts of the PNW (similar to the inland parts of California) can get rather warm in the summer with high temps in the 90's and 100's and very dry (again, rather like California) so I can't really say that our area is especially cool. the coastal and maritime areas (just like much of the northern and central California coast) are rather "heat starved" because of periodic coastal fog and ocean breezes but their winter temps are generally milder than those of the interior areas at the same time. my "signature" at the bottom of all my posts indicates some of the stuff I somehow manage to grow in my little "lacking in heat" corner of the region. Spokane, Washington being east of the cascades has a more continental climate with hot dry summers and rather cold dry winters so Michael's pictures are perhaps even more interesting showing what nice plants can be cultivated in a harsher climate than most of the nominally milder areas west of the cascades.
