Re: To András , Pinus Pinea in Frankfurt

Nachricht von Bernhard

Hello Andras,

In the Rhine Main area many and also large Pinus pinae growing pretty good.
Some of them are older then 50 years and has been survived without any (or big) damages.
But Frankfurt is by far not the mildest region at the Rhine Main area, however the climate is sufficiently mild for Pinus Pinea.
Minimum temperatures are fallen below on the average by -5 bis-8C°. The number of ice days might by on the average at 5-8 days.
In the very cold Winter 96/97 the lowest temp was about -16C°. Sometime between 1950 and 1985 also deeper values by 18 -20C° were reached.
In the last moderate winter, Frankfurt city had only one ice day and a absolut minimum of -6C°.
The very best chance Into Germany to get over the winter witout any damage , has Pinus Pinea in the Rhine Valley between Freiburg and Cologne.

No damage to Pinus Pinea might cause at -20C°(but consider only for a short time)

The link shows some more pictures of Pinus Pinea I have taken in Mainz some weeks ago.
By the way, your pictures of exotic plants from Hungary are also very nice!

Regards
Bernhard
