toyons and "mystery trees"...

yes, "toyon" (a native American name) is another accepted moniker for this plant---like many plants the "common names" are often many and (sometimes) confusing. as for the big bare tree in the temple pic. so sorry can't say---the shape is not that distinctive and it could possibly be an old gingko or a large zelkova, a columnar beech (fagus sylvatica "dawyck" for example) or something completely different!!! show me some leaves and we might have something more to talk about on that one.
