I once tracked down some of the Opuntia humifusa that are native to the Lake Erie shore here in Ontario. There are reports of the species being naturally found from point pelee up to Turkey Point...

We have a second species here as well, Opuntia fragilis, the brittle prickly pear. Mostly it is a northern (found up to the Peace River region in Alberta) and Western species, but it ranges into Northwestern Ontario, and there is a disjunct population near Kaladar in Eastern Ontario (east of Toronto). The native cacti fascinate me!
