Re: How long should I push my luck?

Message from Ken in cold z6a Ohio

Thanks, Ronnie. My Trachy has about 2 1/2 feet of what some would call "trunk", but to me it's more like "crownshaft", even thought it's not a true crownshaft forming palm. The actual woody part (what I consider true trunk) is only a few inches above the ground.

Your protection measures sound similar to mine, except that I do use Christmas lights for heat. I have to here. The last two winters hit -20F. Brutal! I tie a thermocube onto a bamboo stake so it sits about a foot above the spear and plug the lights into it. That seems to do the trick.

Thanks and good luck with yours. If el nino continues, you may not have to do much this winter. Days start getting longer in two weeks!

Ken
