So many broadleaved evergreens for zone 7/8 never used.

Very nice photos...that looked like a fun and interesting trip. I have to get up there some day.

What amazes me...is that everyday I seem to learn of more broadleaved evergreens that will grow well in zones 7 = yet we still see (by and large) that the vast majority of landscapes in these areas have the default "boreal landscape" of pines, yews, and spruces...and leadless trees/shrubs in the cold season. Why these plants are not cultivated more I don't understand? Even in many solid zone 8 areas, it seems people resist BLES.

Lithocarpus is interesting, it was a totally new one to me. They appear to come from south/east Asia, with a similar climate to much of the Middle East Coast (wet, hot summers, modestly cold winters). One I would like to try also is Ilex fargesii.
