I think in a general sense keeping them dry was the key..
the less water in the palm,the higher the carbs to water ratio,
the more sugar in the tissue the lower the freezing point/damage.
He also suggested that palms could move the sugars around leaving
the more dense carb ratios in the spear/trunk to prevent those areas
from freezing,this suggests that the leaves would become less hardy
followed by the spear and then the trunk = palms can regrow their spears
from the trunk even though the leaves have been decimated..that's why
we see the damage appear at the tips and move toward the palms trunk.
