i love Ilex fargesii! they have a good number of them at the arboretum, and yes, they are completely spineless. the look is just so unusual, like a houseplant almost. They top out at 10-15ft and there were a few females with berries. They also had a few other Asian hollies, which resembled camellias in form. They were very small though so i didn't take a photo.

Considering the brutal polar vortexes of the past two years, i'm suprised they even attempted Persea palustris in Boston. Even more surprising is the fact that the trees survived (there are about four of them, all in the same state of dieback and recovery). I crushed a leaf and got a whiff, Indeed, it smells like bay :-)
