Wax Myrtle
Message from Jim K NJ z7a
Brad, although the picture isn't real clear, it does look like a wax myrtle to me. It would be a rare sight to see a bayberry that big and upright. I have at least 14 of them of various sizes. They do grow wild around here, but are very common in the SW pocket of the state by the bay.
Joe K at Triple Oaks grew a bunch from seed collected in Cumberland County and about half of mine came from Joe. I think he still has some if you will be in South Jersey next year, you should stop and see Joe. They have gotten too big to economically ship.
