Lithocarpus henryi has done well for 27 years. It's a multi-trunked small tree. Quercus myrsinifolia has almost a 12" diameter trunk. Q. rhisophila, Q. virginiana, Q. fusiformis, and Q. rugosa have been planted more recently and have done well, Although one Q. virginiana had burn and some branch dieback last winter. Persea is shade-tolerant, does well and grows quickly into a small tree. Cyrilla racemiflora, C.'Graniteville', and C. parviflora (littleleaf) have done well. Osmanthus americanus has done well, although very heavy snow & ice loads cause damage. The variegated form has been very slow.
