Lived in that region briefly in the early 80s. Glad to hear much of it is still "unspoiled".

I recall my first trip down to the Daytona area in 1980. Like you said, there were no surprises until I got down to Daytona Beach proper, and a community just south of there named Allandale. At the time, Allandale was a very well-kept, upper middle class town. Very clean. And also very green. It just seemed more lush and "tropical" than anyplace I had seen up to that time. All these years later, I can't narrow it down to say that I saw this or that particular species of plant, but I remember it looking like a plant lover's paradise. I was just 21 then, but recall thinking, "Boy, one day, if I get enough money to do it, I'd love to live here!" The "here" being Allandale.

I have no idea what the town is like today.
