Sam, I seem to remember traveling through Athens many moons ago and was pretty sure it was in a fairly narrow valley, so assumed it was probably a cold air drainage issue, especially last night. I would also assume that Asheville being on top a mountain would have better air drainage and would probably be somewhat warmer on a night like last night. Of course Asheville averages much colder than Athens TN.
