Takil / Nainital

Message from Jim Wilmington DE 7a

I think that PERHAPS the urban legend that Takil has become (that it's the Holy Grail of arborescent palms) is misguided. It might just be that Nainital is as hardy as Takil, and maybe a tad hardier. Unless people can show me where true Takil worked side-by-side with other types of Trachies (Fortunei & Nainital) that failed, I'll stick to my theory.

Would that superhardy palms were economically lucrative. If they were, the industry itself would've already come up with cultivars. Imagine Sabal Palmetto 'Boston', for example. Producers would've done the natural selection work. And some might even have hurried things along through genetic modification.

Some BLEs can take -10F without much problem. If science could find whatever that "thing" is in a plant that allows for that, then make sure that's added to a palm's DNA, well, it could be interesting.
