Very interesting to hear of the Painted Bunting spotted in NYC, particularly after the summer. They are apparently expanding their range but mainly up rivers in the Southeast. They can regularly be found in Georgia in Athens and Macon now whereas they used to be limited to the lower coastal plain. One piece of huge mis-information in the article in which some ditz "Marla Diamond" stated that Indigo Buntings rarely make it north of Florida, which is flat out wrong. The bird is locally abundant along the Georgia coast and into South Carolina and maybe even north of there. It's ridiculous when people speak authoritatively about something they have no clue about.
