Re: @ Andras- Cordy-Protection

Nachricht von Wolfgang(Stade)

Hallo Andras,
I can't believe, that only the very wet conditions was cause fo the dead of Your Cordyline.
How big was your Cordy? If You had mulched the Cordy, she normally must recover from the roots,
didn't she?
For example: A little tuff(may bee 1 m high) of Cordyline australis ( the same seed from my living Cordy is grown) I have planted in 2002. In the following winter (relatively strong ) it dies complete above ground.
Protection was a reed-mat an mulch.
In spring it recovered from the roots.

I think, there are two points important:
Min-temps below -12°C for longer times are dangerous for the Cordyline australis for the leafs and the stem. Protection for this parts of the plant should be airy, not tight with plastic-foliage.
A good example may be the living Cordy of Your friend.

But as I said, if You mulched the Cordy very well, it will be recover from the roots. I really wonder, why Your Cordy did not !

However,

What is to said: Try it again. Cordy australis is not so expensive and is growing fast.

Cheers
Wolfgang
