Hi Jakob!
Yes in the centres of the cities it's always much milder. Here where I live is a rural area, which is only loosely populated, i.e. no shelter for the plants by mean of houses.
In the centre of Vienna the minimum was -6°C last night. Absolute minimum during the last 40 years was -17,2°C there, but much colder in Februar 1929, although I have no records of how cold it really was then.
You're right the influence of the sea moderates your climate to a large extent. That should give you a good Trachy climate.
But don't worry, the Trachies do cope quite well with those occasional cold spells here. On Monday it should also warm up to +5°C, but it seems that on the long run it will become colder again in most parts of Europe.
Current temperature now at 9:40 is already -5°C.
This year the north is the warmest region, although we both know that this can change quite fast. We also had a very mild winter here this year so far. You never know what the weather is going to do. If you get polar cold from the north than it can soon change for the worse.
Besides -10°C to -12°C in your area can cause the same damages on Trachies as -15°C here, so there's no need to worry.

Regards,
Robert
